Below California Adventures

Making way through desert roads that were friendlier than I had expected. Looking forward to the future while shooting directly into the immediate past.

Making way through desert roads that were friendlier than I had expected. Looking forward to the future while shooting directly into the immediate past.

Months of chatter about this trip rained over phone calls, emails, texts and a number of missed after-work gatherings.
So much planning, strategizing and preparation goes into an adventure like this, it only adds to the anticipation and mild anxiety you experience before you even leave. I did nothing in the way of help plan outside of line up an editorial feature for a future issue of The Bight and make loose demands for healthy options on the menu. The mission: drag expensive boats into primitive environments below the border in search of vicious Cabrilla, perhaps even a mystic ‘golden grouper,’ all in the name of adventure. We would shoot endless photographs and capture the excursion via cinematic machines and share our experience with a captive audience at a small theatre near Kicker Fishing’s HQ – sprinkling tasty crumbs of inspiring imagery over the fibers of the internet to keep the school close to the boat. This was THE PLAN. We’re sticking to it.

RADIOSILENCE & KICKER

Since 2006, my wife Holly, my daughter Ojaio and I have been in a fight against Cystic Fibrosis as a family (Ojaio has CF.) Shortly after Ojaio was born, I started this site as a place to share adventures, tactics and visuals that I was capturing while on the water. The site also served as a place where I could focus my energy on creating future opportunities to make fishing for a living a reality.

The only product that I have ever created through this brand, is media…and it’s always been free.
I’ve given so much of my experiences away through words and visuals and hopefully shortened the learning curve for many people just getting into saltwater bass fishing.

This project with KICKER represents another commitment I’ve made to fishing, that I won’t see a penny from…but in doing so, I’m helping really special FRIENDS that in turn will be helping not only OUR FAMILY, but every FAMILY in a fight against Cystic Fibrosis. When you purchase this ‘Radiosilence and Kicker Kit‘ (limited edition) – a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the CFF and the money goes directly toward research for a cure.

RS & Kicker Kit ('Catching Cap', 'Silence Is Golden' jig and 'Sacred Grounds' T-shirt)

RS & Kicker Kit
(‘Catching Cap’, ‘Silence Is Golden’ jig and ‘Sacred Grounds’ T-shirt)

The ‘kit’ itself includes a Kicker 25 light in ‘Silence Is Golden’ colorway, an RS & Kicker ‘Catching Cap’ and a ‘Sacred Grounds’ T-shirt with a photo of the waters above Sacramento Reef that I took earlier this year.

The edit includes sessions during the testing stage of the jig as well as numerous other Kicker colors that needed to be proven.

I hope you enjoy the video and if you decide to purchase this ‘kit’ – Thanks for your support and I hope that I can repay you for your generosity some day by taking you fishing!

Working Class Zero: Battles

For some, fishing is an escape. An escape from the daily bombardment of shock and awe brought in by the world in which we live. But with that escape, comes the insanity of a prolonged and complex struggle that commands our very beings towards a battle of balance. A battle worth enduring, despite all provocations. Prepare to ignite your senses with “Battles.” An impactful short film by Working Class Zero featuring trophy bass hunter, Mike Gilbert. Visit WORKINGCLASSZERO.

Mike Gilbert and I go way back – through skateboarding. He was always one of the hardest working filmers in the game and always had a positive vibe and infectious smile. What he has created here is absolutely spectacular and an obvious result of hard work and dedication to what he does, in addition to his many accolades in the skateboarding world. I’m proud of you, Mike! I’m proud of you as a friend, a skateboarder, an artist and an angler! Big Respect and Love!
