Crawling To An End

This lobster season has been fun. I’ve spent some good times with 2 different operations and learned a lot. There’s a mild sense of relief that it’s over for me, but I’ll surely miss the hard work of planning, pulling and producing. The last couple of weeks had been tougher than some really productive trips prior, but our cast and crew aboard Bongos III had some high hopes for good fishing. The following images were captured by a few iPhones and should give you an idea of what our Tuesday/Wednesday trip was like…from Cat to Clemente.

PHENIX alpha session 1

I set out at 0440 this morning to meet with Ceez and Brian Marshall in order to tackle the task of testing a newly acquired quiver of Phenix Rods.
The following images are record of a calico bite at the West End of Catalina that took place in 6″-60′ of water.
I recently discovered that the fish were willingly eating bright orange baits fished on or near the bottom in slightly off colored greenish blue and foamy conditions. This would be our approach – use heavy swimbait rods to extract emotionally unstable fish from filthy structure.

The fish were feeding aggressively at first light, taking swimbaits on the sink.
